If there’s one thing I’ll never shut up about, it’s gut health. I love exploring new products and routines that can help improve gut health and overall wellness. And you may be surprised like I was to find out how many things actually relate back to your gut health.
So, without further ado, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite gut health products (directly and indirectly) across different categories: food and nutrition, beauty and body care, and movement. These are products I’m using and things I’m doing right now that I truly believe can improve gut health over time. I hope something on this list inspires you to try it out!
What I’m Eating & Drinking
Lemon Water: Before I put anything else in my body, I try to drink a cup of warm lemon water in the morning. Starting the day off with warm lemon water is shown to help stimulate digestive enzymes and support liver function. And if you’re like me, it can be a challenge to get your recommended water intake in each day, so this helps start your day off on a hydrated note (and hint hint, hydration is great for gut health).
Just Ingredients Electrolytes: Since we’re on the topic of hydration, I think it’s the perfect time to talk electrolytes. As I mentioned above, hydration is super important for gut health. Hydration helps to regulate fluid balance in the body, maintain a strong gut lining, and keep things moving. An electrolyte supplement I’ve been loving is the Just Ingredients in flavor Raspberry Lemonade. It’s a natural electrolyte supplement, with no weird or artificial ingredients (a bonus for a healthy gut).
Slippery Elm: If you’re someone who struggles with gut health (or even more specifically, leaky gut) and haven’t heard of slippery elm, I cannot recommend it enough! Slippery elm is a natural herb that thickens when added to water and acts as a gel-like coating in the digestive tract. It helps calm irritation and support a healthy gut lining. I usually take this in the morning and just add a small scoop to a full 8oz glass of water. Fair warning, though, drink it fast because it thickens quickly! The brand I use is Vital Nutrients.
Products I’m Using
Castor Oil Packs: This one is a recommendation I come back to over and over. Castor oil packs. If you’ve never tried a castor oil pack, I highly recommend! Applying a castor oil pack over your abdomen is a concept that’s actually been used for centuries to help better support digestion, reduce inflammation, and promote lymphatic drainage. I typically throw mine on while I’m winding down at night, usually with a book, and it’s the perfect relaxation routine. Leaving it on for about 30 minutes is all you need – it’s good to start slow, as everyone’s body reacts differently to this powerful oil!
Non-Toxic Deodorant: I know this one might not seem like an obvious gut health product recommendation, but this is one that I think is important for your gut health over time (even if indirectly). What you put on your skin matters because it’s our body’s largest organ! Conventional deodorants usually have a bunch of toxic and harmful ingredients, such as aluminum, that have been studied for their potential to cause hormone disruption, disrupt the skin microbiome, and even cause cancer. All of these things can be connected to gut health, especially long-term. That’s why I’ve switched to using only non-toxic deodorants. The brand I’ve been loving is Salt & Stone in scent Santal & Vetiver. This is one of the only natural deodorants that actually works for me, and I love the fresh scent!
Dry Brush: If you want to go deeper on dry brushing, I actually have a full post on it here. This is another recommendation that is more indirectly correlated to your gut health, but has many effects that could improve it over time. Dry brushing can help support lymphatic drainage, improve circulation, and help your body eliminate toxins. Your lymphatic system and gut are closely connected through your immune system, and believe it or not…around 70% of your immune system lives in your gut. So, all to say, that supporting lymphatic flow through things dry brushing may support your body’s overall detox and immune processes… and therefore your gut too!
What I’m Moving With
Vibration Plate: In light of talking about lymphatic drainage, I have to mention the vibration plate. Every morning, I hop on the vibration plate for about 10 minutes spend about 10 minutes and it’s now one of my favorite parts of my morning. The vibration helps to stimulate gut motility, and it essentially wakes your digestive system up. This can help get things moving while also supporting lymphatic drainage at the same time. I highly recommend this because it’s a very low-effort way to help get things moving in the morning!
Pilates By Izzy on YouTube: I’ve been loving Pilates By Izzy on YouTube for my at home pilates sessions. Her workouts are low-impact, core-focused, and pilates workouts can be so good for your gut. Pilates specifically helps massage your digestive organs through core engagement and breath work. And did I mention it’s completely free? Highly recommend if you haven’t tried her yet. She will give you a great challenge, while not spiking your cortisol. Chronically spiked cortisol truly can disrupt your gut health, so low-impact workouts like these are perfect for keeping it in check. You can check out Pilates By Izzy here.
Bala Bangles: Walking is a great and super easy way to support your gut health. It’s beneficial because it directly stimulates gut motility and helps keep digestion moving. Even a 20-30 minute walk has been shown to improve gut transit time. I’ve been adding Bala Bangles to my walks lately to make them a little more effective without going high impact. Not to mention, they come in so many cute colors!
Thanks for tuning in to my current favorite gut health products and recommendations! These are all super easy, relatively inexpensive, and fun ways to show a little love to your gut and overall health. I hope you give one (or a few) of these a try! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts once you do.
