We all know movement is good for us, that’s not new information, but let’s be honest…the tricky part is actually getting ourselves to do it. Especially after a long day when the motivation is nowhere to be found, and the couch is calling your name. I’ve been there more times than I can count.

That’s exactly why I keep a few pilates-inspired essentials at home for simple movement when motivation isn’t exactly thriving.

This post is all about at-home pilates equipment you should try for a better workout.

At-Home Pilates Equipment

1. A Supportive Yoga Mat

If you’re starting from scratch, let the first thing you get be a good yoga mat!

Everything kind of revolves around it, whether you’re flowing through pilates, stretching, or doing a quick core session in your living room. It’ll make all of your movement feel more comfortable and supported… trust me, your wrists and knees will also thank you!

You can buy a yoga mat almost anywhere. The one I personally use is the Lululemon 5mm mat. It’s held up well for me and is the perfect thickness.

2. Light Hand Weights

Light weights are sneaky. They seem easy at first, and then five minutes into pilates pulses, your arms are shaking and on the verge of falling off.

I like keeping a small set at home because they instantly level up simple movements without making the workout feel overwhelming or high-impact.

3. Ankle Weights for Gentle Lower Body Strength

Ankle weights are where things start to get a spciy!

I didn’t think they would make that big of a difference at first but overtime, even the addition of 2-5lbs adds so much depth to your workout. Plus, they’re super versatile and can be used for almost any movement!

I use them mostly for glute work and slow mat pilates moves when I want a little more intensity without turning it into a full-blown strength session.

I personally love Bala Bangles. They’re comfortable, they don’t slide around, and yes… they’re cute. I’m not saying aesthetics matter, but if something looks good sitting in your living room, you’re way more likely to use it…right?

4. A Pilates Block for Extra Support

I used to think Pilates blocks were optional. Like… nice to have, but not necessary. Then I actually started using one.

It makes a bigger difference than you’d expect. Especially on days when your flexibility isn’t exactly showing up for you. A block can give you just enough lift or support so you’re not straining or overreaching.

I grab for the block when doing stretching, balance work, or when I need a little extra stability in certain moves.

5. A Pilates Board for At-Home Studio Vibes

Okay, this one is definitley not a necessity, but it’s fun!

I got mine because I wanted that slight challenge you feel in a reformer class, and while it’s not the same thing, it scratches the itch.

It changes up the rhythm of a regular mat workout and keeps things from feeling repetitive. On days when I’m bored of the same old flow, I’ll pull it out just to switch things up.

It’s one of those pieces that makes your living room feel a little less like your living room and more like a pilates studio.

6. A Pilates Ring for That Signature Inner-Thigh Burn

The pilates ring and I have a bit of a love-hate relationship. It looks harmless, but trust me… it’s not. Give it 20 seconds and you’re really start to feel the burn.

I originally used it just for inner-thigh work, but have come to learn that it can be used for way more than that – arms, glutes, you name it!

If you’re looking for that slow, controlled movement that will have you sore for days, this ring will do just the thing!

7. A Pilates Ball for Core & Balance

Last but not least, a pilates ball is a must-have for balance, core stability, and full-body engagement.

If you’re wondering what all the hype is behind this pilates ball, try putting it behind your lower back during an ab workout, and you’ll never question again!

It’s small, but it changes everything. Your core has to work harder, your balance gets tested in the best way, and suddenly even the simplest moves feel way more intentional.

I also love using it between my thighs during bridges or squeezes because it forces you to stay engaged instead of zoning out halfway through.

It’s one of those tiny tools that doesn’t look like much… but your muscles absolutely notice..

Whether you’re brand new to pilates or you’ve been doing it for years, having a few go-to pieces at home just makes it easier to actually show up.

You don’t need all of this at once. Start with one thing and build from there.

Okay, now I’m curious…what are you grabbing first?
